OUR TEAM

Conservation Resources consists of principals with backgrounds in private equity, real assets, conservation and commodities.

JOHN F. TOMLIN

Prior to co-founding Conservation Resources (formerly Conservation Forestry) in 2004, John has been involved with several successful start-up and early-stage companies as well as leverage buyouts over more than three decades.

John has served on several boards of directors and has acted as both Chairman and CEO of portfolio companies when circumstances required.  In addition, he has served as Chairman of the Board and President of PERC.

 

PAUL J. YOUNG

Joining John Tomlin in 2004, Paul Young co-founded Conservation Resources.  Paul brings a broad cross section of timber investment and management expertise, and his overall knowledge of the institutional timber investment industry is extensive. He focuses his efforts on structuring investment entities, due diligence and oversight of timberland management and operations.

He is currently a member of the executive committee of the National Association of Forestland Owners.

KENT W. GILGES

Kent Gilges joined Conservation Resources in 2007 and serves as the Chief Conservation Officer. Kent has led the firm’s conservation practice and facilitated the permanent conservation of more than 346,000 acres of critical lands and 861 miles of rivers and streams.

In addition, Kent has been on the forefront of the firm’s sustainability and ESG efforts and has worked diligently in the industry to establish metrics that apply to the real asset marketplace.

SCOTT T. MOONEY

Scott Mooney joined Conservation Resources in July 2007 as the Vice President of Acquisitions.

Scott has been in the forest products and timberland investment sector for 20 years and has held key positions in acquisitions, operations and consulting.

STAVROS KOUTSANTONIS

Stavros Koutsantonis joined the Advisor team to lead the implementation of the Conservation Farming strategy. He joined Conservation Resources from Brookfield Asset Management where he was a Director, Portfolio Manager and Head of the Opportunistic Strategies and Natural Resources Team investing in global real asset sectors, focusing on agriculture and other real assets.

Stavros is a CFA charter holder and member of CFA Institute and the Boston Society of Security Analysts.

FRED W. BLUM

Fred Blum joined Conservation Resources in 2006. He has overseen financial and client reporting, systems, appraisals, cash management and tax compliance.

Fred’s background includes extensive experience with on-the-ground forestry and timber processing operations with forest products companies and the US Forest Service. He is familiar with forest operations in most of the major timber producing regions in the US, as well as New Zealand and Brazil. Fred is a member of the Society of American Foresters.

DEBORAH FORTIN

Deborah Fortin joined Conservation Resources in November 2013. She brings more than 30 years of diverse accounting and financial management experience, including reporting and compliance with various state and federal agencies.

Deborah’s experience ranges from Director of International Finance and Operations for The Timberland Company to being responsible for system-wide tax and financial reporting as General Accounting Manager for the University System of New Hampshire.
